Saw III Rated Full Screen Edition

Saw III Rated Full Screen Edition

The first Saw picture actually had an idea behind it, to say nothing of the ingenuity of its low-budget production; making a silk purse out of a bloody, maggot-ridden human ear, as it were. With Saw III, the franchise pretty much settles into gore for gore’s sake, as it explores newer and better ways to traumatize the body–and the audience. Events from Saw II are sewn up at the beginning of the film, and a detective on the trail of mad killer Jigsaw is quickly trussed up and subjected to one of the villain’s sadistic games (this one has escape possible only by means of a key sitting in the bottom of a beaker of acid). Then we catch up with Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) himself, as he awaits death from his debilitating illness; once again he’s tended by helper Shawnee Smith. The movie follows parallel plots: Jigsaw blackmails a doctor (Bahar Soomekh) into keeping him alive, and tortures a vengeful soul (Angus Macfayden) into recognizing the futility of revenge. Original Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell worked on the script of this one, and it fully buys into the series mythology, referring backwards to previous events and, for all we know, preparing us for future installments. But if future installments are as pointlessly repugnant as this one, there’s not much to look forward to. –Robert Horton

5 Stars Saw III
This sender was very prompt in sending out my order and once it was recieved I got exactly what I paid for, the product was even in better shape then was specified on the description.

Thanks for Making this a Great Experience.

5 Stars Great Movie
If you’ve enjoyed the first two, this one won’t let you down. Gotta have it in Blu.

5 Stars Saw Fan
In order to enjoy Saw you have to start with the first one. I like that each Saw is really connected verses many series where it is all new characters and plots.

With the Saw series you will see how they layer each film and how they are all connected!

Bottom line great movie!

2 Stars Ending
I first watched Saw III as the regular version on DVD..

I recently watched it on the Directors Cut.

Everything is the same until the ending.

and the ending for SAW is always the most important.

in the Regular version DVD or Saw III the ending was SWEET.

in the directors cut the ending was Terrible.

If you enjoy the SAW movies, make sure you do NOT get the Directors cut.

It will ruin all of SAW III..

ONLY get the Regular Version and maybe the Unrated, im ordering the Unrated now so i can see if it has the Good ending, or the crap ending.

The rated version is the best so far.

Its all about the endings in SAW.

so Avoid the Directors Cut. It destroys the ending.

4 Stars I needed this movie
I bought “Saw III” because I needed to see it. You have to understand, I am a large horror fan. I am also a fan of TV shows like “Buffy”, “Angel”, “Dr. Who” and “True Blood”. Therefore, suffice to say I like serials. That’s why I had to have “Saw III”. And (unfortunately) “Saw IV”. (Heck, I even wasted money on the latest “Indiana Jones” drivel.)

When the first “Saw” came out, I was captivated. Great villain, lots of gore. I loved the whole mythology. And due to the cliff-hanger style ending, I bought in for “Saw II” as well.

And “Saw II” was fine. Decent story line. Interesting characters. Good amount of gore. Liked it.

Then we come to Saws “III and IV”, which according to Wikipedia happen concurrently. I liked “Saw III” for the gore. And the plot had enough twists to keep me interested. There is also the inclusion of the pretty doctor and a good finale which appears to wrap everything up. Or does it?

I have to admit I only bought “Saw III” because of seeing and enjoying Saws “I and II”. But it is a fine film, if you like the series and want to see how everything turns out.

Then I went out and bought “Saw IV”, and as far as I’m concerned that’s where it has to stop. Watch the first three films and you’ll see why. “Saw V”? “Saw VI”? Give me a break. What’s next… Jigsaw comes back to life in outer space (a la Jason X)? No thanks. Moving on….

Brain Dead

Brain Dead

Adam Simon (Carnosaur) made his directoral debut with this mind game of a movie. Based on a decades-old screenplay by former Twilight Zone contributor Charles Beaumont, Simon dusted off and updated the script about an experimental brain researcher (Bill Pullman) who agrees to dig into the gray matter of a schizophrenic scientist (Bud Cort), only to fall prey to his patient’s psychosis. Or maybe he’s just plain nuts. Spiced with a bizarre sense of humor (Pullman wrestles over a brain specimen in a jar with a homeless man who tries to grab it: “That’s my brain!”), Pullman’s ordeal takes one hairpin turn after another as he becomes lost in a maze of alternate realities, no longer able to sort fantasy from reality or paranoia from persecution. This clever puzzle of a film overcomes low-budget restrictions with a deviously inventive story that echoes Brazil and quotes from The Manchurian Candidate and North by Northwest. Bill Paxton costars as a smarmy corporate manipulator with slicked back hair and a get-rich-quick scheme for a chain of brain surgery boutiques (”The New You, by Eunice!”), and George Kennedy is his bottom-line boss. Director Simon may be most famous for playing himself in a jokey cameo in Robert Altman’s The Player. –Sean Axmaker

5 Stars Nicely Done
Loved this film.Could get a bit confusing at times but thats what made it so good.It all makes sense eventually dont worry :).

4 Stars Great tale of madness
4-1/2 Stars. I love this movie. Found myself so wrapped up in it, trying to figure out what is real and what is fantasy. This movie keeps you guessing and is full of surprises.

5 Stars I think the kid may be mistaken
I beleive this “Braindead” is actually Peter Jackson’s “Dead-Alive,” and not the Pullman/Paxton picture. It was rumored for a possible re-release years ago (and has remained in several gorehounds’ minds and discussion boards since), and I believe this may be it. Afterall, who really cares about that other movie? I myself have written a few letters and signed a few petitions to get an un-cut Region 1 version of this film. I checked around a few other places, and there aren’t any online stores other than amazon that I could find that have this title listed. And until we get a box art image or a plot/cast overview, I guess we’ll just have to wait to see what this item really is. The only other site that has this listed is a forum, and it is under the “rumor” category–that site being [...].

That being said, if it is the case that this is Jackson’s film, my rating is a 4. If it is Jackson’s film and un-cut, or at least with special features including deleted scenes, I stand by my original five star rating. If it is anything other than those two options, I give it a one star rating. Yeah that’s right. Thank you.

5 Stars I loved this movie! Not very violent- but good!
It is a great movie! You’ll love it!

Note: Amazon Marked it wrong it’s rated “PG-13″

They also messed up on “Pearl Harbor” too. That’s “PG-13″

5 Stars watch it!
This has been a favorite of mine for years. It stars Bill Pullman and Bud Cort. I can not even go into deatail explaining this because it is a very hard to explain movie.

It’s roughly about a scientist who studied brains for a living and soon becomes the brain that is being studied. Without knowing this the movie goes into super-twist mode. It is definitely a movie that will take a few watches to fully understand. A must see.

5 Stars The mind can sometimes be the ugliest thing of all
The key elements to a five star horror are pretty simple, right? Well not so much in this genre. But there are films that will blow your mind. All of the great pyschological films have a way of making you feel a bit crazy. This brings me to The Ugly. If you haven’t seen my favorite horror movies, it’s in the top 40. You may ask exactly why, so let me tell you. I will start off by saying that my favorite of any horror movies out there are the pyschological ones. Any time a horror is made into what can be reality, that scares me the most. Why is it that we watch them, to be scared of course?. The Ugly has a way of making you feel sorry for the killer, yet hating him at the same time. We all want the answer to why and what makes psychopaths kill. The answer is unknown, and in this film the real answer to that question stays unknown. We can’t be in their minds, yet everyday psychologist get paid a lot of money to try. The acting is superb. The plot is fantastic. The atmosphere is really creepy and scary. We also have some good gore scenes involved. We are drawn in by one man that makes us feel that we are right there with him. His reality is our worst nightmare.

Serial killer Simon Cartwright has been in a mental institute for the past five years. He request a famous psychiatrist by the name of Dr. Karen Schumaker to evaluate him because he believes he is cured. Simon states that the evil within him is now gone. At first Karen believes Simom is cured and is regretful for all of his killings. When the truth starts to unravel itself, we are taken into Simons world with flashbacks of the evil that required him to do these cruel and unthinkable crimes. What Karen soon learns is that Simon is manipulative and she is forced into his world to take on The Ugly.

This is a great scary movie for Halloween. I’m sure not everyone will agree with me, but for the most part the horror fans will love this as much as I do. This will make you think twice about your own sanity. In the process just try not to go mad.

5 Stars What Simon Sees…
THE UGLY is all about mysterious serial-killer, Simon Cartwright (Paolo Rotondo). The other characters are incidental, except for Dr. Karen Schumaker (Rebecca Hobbs), who attempts to figure Simon out. Simon is an enigma. Unlike other notorious serial-murderers, he apparently kills all types of people for no reason other than the pure enjoyment of the slaughter. He simply loves to kill. Or does he? Dr. Schumaker probes Simon’s mind in order to uncover his secrets. Unfortunately for her, there’s more going on than she is aware of. We are shown a world through Simon’s eyes, where orderlies are sadistic thugs, and the head doctor is an aloof moron. Simon sees everything differently. THE UGLY is a glimpse into the skull of a man haunted by the demons and ghosts of his past. An abused boy in adult skin, seeking revenge for the agony of his youth. However, it’s hard to tell if we can believe everything we see or hear. Simon is very tricky. Sometimes fantasy and reality merge, as do various past experiences. Like dreams within dreams within nightmares. Simon cannot be fully trusted. He can’t even trust himself. THE UGLY is a well-made psychological / supernatural creeper w/ many cool set pieces, like Simon’s chasing of the little girl through the stacks of chairs, or the final encounters w/ the “visitors”. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something out of the ordinary…

1 Star 0.25 STARS: It’s “Ugly” alright. “The Stupid” might be a better name though.
“The Ugly” is a so-called horror movie about a serial killer who is confined in an outrageous mental institution. Enter a highly publicized psychiatrist who comes onto the scene to presumably provide a second opinion on our sympathetic serial killer. As such, the audience is then subjected to the dreaded flashback mode of film making in which the killer recalls his past deeds. In the process, “The Ugly” tries to be cute and clever by throwing in illogical and outrageously ridiculous scenes to throw the viewer into blow-your-mind world. The result is ugly. Hence the name of this film, “The Ugly” or just “The Stupid”.

Movies that attempt the flashback method often make for a frustrating viewing experience, (not that the method cannot be successfully done, see “Godfather II”). Just take “The Stupid”, I’m sorry, “The Ugly”, which uses this method in an attempt to be clever, but the movie just never gets off the ground. While horror movies certainly do not have to be realistic per se, they do need to be convincing, and this, among other areas, is where “The Ugly” completely fails. Aside from its questionable method of cinematic procession and complete lack of theatrical structure, “The Ugly” is also plagued by bad acting, an over the top and boring script, poor execution of a unimaginative plot and an unconvincing portrait of a serial killer. Indeed, “The Ugly” tries to be clever, but perhaps it attempts to be too cute for its own good.

While style over substance can work in horror cinema, it takes an especially talented director to make it happen. Just take a look at Dario Argento’s “Suspiria” and “Inferno” for a perfect example of how to do a style over substance horror flick. However, just because a movie tries to be different does not make it good in and of itself, and that is what we unfortunately get in “The Ugly”, an ugly and boring movie watching experience completely lacking in the ability to provide any degree of horror in the audience.

5 Stars Fascinating horror- movie
This movie is fascinating, in a strange, intriguing manner. It combines some very gory (not exagerated!) moments with the sinister, hidden truth. One is drawn into a world, which is terrible under a surface, which only seems to be normal. The end is truly horrifying!

4 Stars The Type of Cunning that sometimes leads to Cutting
Simon Cartwright is many things, and sane wouldn’t exactly be one of those mentioned. According to the beginning of the movie he has done unspeakable things and is the interest of many people because of it, with lots of prolific minds hoping to crack that hardest to read “nut.” And why not? A career can be made overnight by publications on the “why” and “wherefore” that drives individuals to do horrific things, and the APA is always looking for some new insight into the minds of our most noted maniacs. Added to this is Cartwright himself; when you see him he seems almost a victim of some terrible mix-up, like a lamb amongst wolves, and when he speaks he seems forthright and honest when it comes everything he says. That doesn’t seem to follow in the footsteps of most prolific bipedal terrors, almost making him approachable, and a certain Dr. Karen Schumaker sees such a chance in all of this to try to understand just what makes someone so terrible such a fright.

The thing is that Simon Cartwright isn’t just a killer and, for the good Dr. Schumaker, this becomes evident rather quickly.

When I watched The Ugly the first time, I found it somewhat confusing and somewhat disorienting but I let my mind wander it anyhow. After a second visitation to Cartwright’s mindset I found myself less pressed for explanations and rather impressed by the movie as a whole because it opted for a different approach to understanding the error behind things. It didn’t try to dish out oceans of blood or intimidate the audience with a blacklist of crimes miles deep; it instead began with little tricks that played on the mind and continued to get deeper the more the movie continued on. This meant using somewhat surreal moments to play with the viewer’s sense all the stroll through, essentially throwing them to those proverbial wolves in a visual sense of the word, delving all-the-while into a game that Mr. Cartwright allowed to grow deeper and deeper as the story itself grew deeper and deeper.

Personally, I enjoyed the experience of really having to keep track of what was happening and the sense of distortion that came with falling into the footsteps of a psychotic.

Another enjoyable portion of The Ugly was that the story presented about Simon Cartwright really played worked in bulks of images and soft-spoken wording. You have this tale that Cartwright concocts to play with the emotions of those listening, and then you have the true story of the person and “the Ugly” that dance around the spectator all the movie through. I found this especially interesting because so many movies are linear now, going from front to back without really trying. The Ugly does quite the opposite, taking a person’s compassion and the things that they are willing to accept and using that against them.

It seemed like the adage of a “dog eat dog world” really coming to life here.

The movie isn’t for everyone, granted, and some people might not like the way the movie is delivered. Still, for fans of horror that want to try out something a tad different, The Ugly is an interesting road to traverse.

Super Bowl XXXVI New England Patriots Championship Video

Super Bowl XXXVI New England Patriots Championship Video

No one expected great things for the 2001 New England Patriots, and their upstart reputation persisted until the final seconds of Super Bowl XXXVI, when a winning field goal at long last established them as football’s best. This rousing NFL Films production follows their entire season, beginning with a horrendous 1-3 record and the loss of quarterback Drew Bledsoe before they kept finding ways to win in a season that couldn’t help but be emotional. Playing when America was attacked and went to war held a special meaning for the Patriots, who at one game paid tribute to teammate Joe Andruzzi’s three brothers who work as New York City firefighters. The Patriots’ postseason victories, including a memorable overtime upset in a snowstorm against the fearsome Raiders, are dramatically depicted. And 17 minutes of highlights from the Super Bowl game against the heavily favored St. Louis Rams are presented with all the devotion that only NFL Films can bring. –Robert J. McNamara

2 Stars Deceptive Advertising

I was looking for a DVD of Superbowl XXXVI. The description of this DVD gave the impression that it contained the whole game. Instead, it gave a recap of the season with footage of numerous games and about 10 min. of the superbowl. This was not what I wanted and was very disappointing.

1 Star an amazing moment of history, sadly not remembered very well on this DVD
As a long suffering Pats fan since birth, we had seen all the misery of losing, losing, losing and finally getting to 2 superbowls and hey…..losing! That all changed in New Orleans 2001 and what a feeling that was. WE FINALLY WIN !!!! sadly this incredible moment of glory and joy is not commemorated very well on this DVD. It’s far too short for starters and there isn’t full coverage of the superbowl. why?! I know it was a dull game but we still won our first superbowl ever. Why not the full game play by play? I also found the music pretty irritating and the extra’s were minimal and lousy. If you were lucky enough to have taped the game as it was on TV that night, stick to that and don’t waste your money on this trash.

5 Stars BEYOND INSPIRATION
Being from New England, it is easy to say that this to me was one of the greatest things that ever happened, ever, the amazing 2001 season from the N.E. Patriots. Even if you ain’t that into sports, maybe just inspirational films that put a huge sh** eating grin on your face… this is a DVD to own (at least to check out..)

I of course was issued a copy of this after the Superbowl win in 2002, being from New England, but only dug it out recently to view it. Besides telling the story in detail about the season, game for game, it is also produced very well, by using the real NFL film footage, that is much more in depth than what we all saw on TV back when it happened. Right on the sidelines with the players, you get to watch (half the time you can see that they are almost as amazed with themselves as we were)

I guess I should spare the story, because it is written in every other review here, and really its much better shown on the DVD, but to remember the state of the team at that point… Last place underdogs the WHOLE season. Even as the team barrel rolled and got bigger and better, game for game, no one believed they would do it (maybe us New Englanders did, but we were still crossing our fingers pretty damned hard).. but everytime the stakes got higher, the team got hotter (not to mention a few divine miracles, like the enormous hurricane during the Raiders game)

You just gotta watch this thing, and see how crazy the team really got, spectacular moves all over. This is one of those sports stories that should grace the big screen… a story you couldn’t make up.

Rock on PATS!

P.S. Regarding the tribute to 9/11, god bless to all….

but I REALLY hate U2!

4 Stars Relive New Englands First Super Bowl Championship
New England Patriots fans will no doubt want to add this Super Bowl XXXVI DVD to their collection. This highlights package of the 2001 NFL football season culminated in the Patriots winning their first league championship under difficult circumstances.

As with all other NFL championship DVDs, this is a little over an hour long highlights package of every New England Patriots regular season and playoff game, along with even more extensive highlights of the New England Patriots exciting, dramatic victory over the St. Louis Rams, 20-17, in Super Bowl XXXXVI.

This video includes many interviews, sideline sound bites, and locker room scenes throughout the season, which really brings to life the players and coaches on this fabulous team.

While I always feel these video packages do not do a great job of highlighting the drama of specific games, including those in the playoffs, it does do a good of job of conveying the drama of this very interesting, unusual season for the Patriots.

First, many may forget the Patriots started out 0-2, and were only 5-5 at one point in the season. Few expected this team to go far, especially not to the Super Bowl.

Probably more important, the producers of this video did a very nice job of dealing with the quarterback controversy–or lack thereof–that emerged when Tom Brady took over for the injured Drew Bledsoe, the long time New England starter. Bledsoe suffered a severe chest injury in the second regular season game against the Jets. Once Bledsoe was cleared to play later in the season, Brady kept the starting job because the Patriots were winning and Brady was on a roll. This DVD includes in season interviews with both quarterbacks talking about their situation. While there was a lot more tension on the team than is seen in the video or that the Patriots have ever made public, Bledsoe must be given great credit for not tearing the team apart and ruining their chances of success. Given his long tenure as the starter and close relationship with the players on the team, he could have easily caused great dissension on the team and split apart the locker room. But he accepted his new role with professionalism, maturity, and dignity which should endear him to most Patriots fans. Bledsoe earned his Super Bowl ring through his maturity and his great play in the AFC Championship game against Pittsburgh when Brady twisted his ankle early in the game. This video does a nice job of highlighting and dealing with situation as the season progressed.

The video also does a nice job with the more extensive highlights of New England’s playoff victories. The first, against the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Divisional Playoff game, 16-13, took place in a blizzard. This game featured the overturning of an apparent Brady fumble, under the now infamous “Tuck Rule,” that would have cost the Patriots the game. The game also featured some of the most amazing kicking in ridiculously bad weather by Adam Vinateri.

The Patriots 24-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh featured sterling play by Bledsoe when Tom Brady went down with an injury early in the game, and a Troy Brown return of a blocked field goal that help seal the game for the Patriots.

Finally, of course, there are even more extensive highlights of the dramatic 20-17 Super Bowl victory over the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI on a last second field goal by Adam Vinateri. This was preceded by a gutsy, long drive by the Patriots with less than two minutes to go after the Rams tied the score late in the game. I still get tears in my eyes watching that kick sail through the uprights to secure our first Super Bowl victory.

The Special Features on the video are also nicely done. While I was disappointed the entire Super Bowl game was not on the video, the bonus material is quite worthwhile, even if the segments are a bit short.

The bonus features include “NFL Salutes America,” showing player reactions to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks as well as the halftime show, featuring U2, which I frankly have never watched.

More interesting, and important to New England fans, are the three short segments about the team itself (about five minutes a piece). First, there is a segment on the 1976 Patriots, which many consider to be the most talented Patriots team ever, which was robbed in a playoff loss against the Oakland Raiders on a bogus roughing the passer call late in the game.

A second features one of New England’s star players of the 1960s, Gino Cappelletti, who is now a broadcaster for Patriots game. And my favorite segment of all is on the tough, gritty Steve Grogan, the Patriots quarterback in the 1970s who was a role model for me as kid.

This video is highly recommend for New England Patriots fans.

Disclaimer: I am a die hard New England Patriots fan and am totally biased in this review.

4 Stars Fantastic Way To Remember The Patriots 2001 Season
If you are a Patriots fan there is no way you cannot enjoy this DVD reliving the magical 2001 season, the “Snow Game”, and Super Bowl XXXVI.

The only problem I have with this DVD is it’s too short — every Super Bowl DVD after this one has hours of footage instead of just an hour but you will NOT be disappointed with what is on this disc!!

**** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
